The Basic Pathological Sciences (BPS) exam is a foundational step for many aspiring pathologists and surgical trainees, particularly those undertaking training pathways in Australia and New Zealand. Despite its importance, resources tailored specifically to BPS preparation have remained limited—until now.

We’re excited to share why we at GetThru decided to build a BPS exam question bank, how we approached its development, and what you can expect as it continues to grow.

A Clear Need From Our Learners

When we first launched GetThru, our focus was on building powerful tools for surgical exam preparation. Over time, we received consistent feedback from colleagues, peers and users: "Could you make something similar for the BPS exam?"

It became clear—there was a real gap, and our learners were asking us to fill it. Our goal has always been to harness the digital medium to help users and fellow doctors to maximise the efficiency of their study to succeed in mandatory vocational exams – often while also working a full time clinical job.

The GetThru platform has been well received in the surgical education space and is currently used by 25-30% of all examinees for the Part 1 Surgical exam (the GSSE). Se we saw an opportunity to bring the same intuitive, evidence-based approach to the BPS exam, representing our first step into expanding GetThru into other specialties.
